Transforming Cities Through Broadband

Broadband refers to high-speed internet connectivity that allows for the transmission of data at fast speeds. It is a type of internet connection that provides a wide bandwidth, enabling the transfer of large amounts of data concurrently.

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) broadband uses existing telephone lines to transmit data, providing faster speeds compared to dial-up connections. Cable broadband utilizes cable television lines to deliver internet access, offering higher speeds and wider coverage than DSL. Fiber optic broadband, considered the fastest and most reliable option, employs thin strands of glass or plastic to transmit data as pulses of light. Satellite broadband utilizes satellites to establish an internet connection, making it accessible in remote or rural areas. Wireless broadband uses radio waves to transmit data, commonly delivered through cellular networks or Wi-Fi.

Broadband is a crucial component for cities aiming to become smart cities, as it forms the foundation for various technological advancements and digital transformations. Broadband infrastructure plays a vital role in enhancing connectivity, communication, and access to information, thereby empowering both individuals and communities.
