Mr. Bill Marsh is a Senior Consultant at CMG. He has over 26 years of experience across a range of technology sectors.


Mr. Marsh holds a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan and a Masters degree, also in electrical engineering, from Stanford University. He is the holder of nine (9) patents in wireless technologies.


Mr. Marsh co-leads CMG practices in Strategy andScenario Planning, Go-to-Market Planning, Business Optimization and Transformation, and Smart City Roadmap Planning. Additionally, he also co-leading the development of a Smart State Index and Smart City Index.


Mr. Marsh was most recently an executive with Dell, where he was responsible for managing the company’s strategic hardware partnerships that combined accounted for $2.75B of Dell’s $60B in total sales. Before Dell, Mr. Marsh was engaged in venture capital as a partner with Oxantium Ventures, an advanced energy and information technology venture capital firm based in Washington, DC. Mr. Marsh came to venture capital after the sale of traq-wireless, an enterprise wireless management spin-out from Motorola that Mr. Marsh co-founded in 2000 and where he was the chief technical officer until its sale to Tangoe (Nasdaq:TNGO) in 2007. Mr. Marsh spent 6 years at Motorola in the cellular and semiconductor businesses.


While with Motorola Mr. Marsh helped to sell, install or support cellular networking systems in more than 50 countries. Before joining Motorola, he was a co-founder and a principal with Cambridge Strategic Management Group, a strategy management consultancy based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, (acquired by TMNG) and a consultant with Booz, Allen and Hamilton. Mr. Marsh started his career as a satellite engineer with Hughes Aircraft’s Space and Communications Group.


Mr. Marsh’s first real technical “job” was at the US Department of Defense’s Defense Communications Agency, where he worked in the Program Office for the ARPANET, the Defense Advanced Project Agency’s (DARPA) predecessor to the modern internet.


Mr. Marsh has extensive international business experience, where in addition to his sales and field work with Motorola, he has consulted/advised to a number of international manufacturers, carriers and governments, including Philips, Siemens, Lucent Alcatel, Fujitsu, British Telecom BT Group, Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telkom, KDDI and the governments of the UK, Australia, Venezuela and Singapore on policy and implementation. He has held expatriate assignments in the UK, Germany, Dubai, India and Australia.
